Goodbye 2017! Lessons I Learned in 2017 and Taking Into 2018

    January 11, 2018

Hola friends! First off I’d like to say Happy New Year! I hope the holidays have treated you well and that you enjoyed your time with family and friends.

I wanted to write something a little bit different today. With the new year, come the lists of resolutions and goals that people want to accomplish within the next year. While I think creating resolutions is important, I want to reflect more on lessons I learned in the past year that will be utilized in this next upcoming year.

Now this may seem like a lesson from a “self-help” book, but I realized this year that staying positive truly makes all the difference in my day to day. I tend to more of a pessimistic person naturally and with the tough times that I encountered in 2o17, I realized that I perpetuated a lot my stresses through being negative as a whole. This is easier said than done of course, but I have made it my mission to try and view challenges in a more positive light and push through them instead of being counter-intuitive with negative thoughts.

    Determine what you are worth

This year brought about the expansion of my blog and its followers and creation of more partnerships. All of this brought about the question of “When do I start charging for work?”. It’s a hard thing that most bloggers and entrepreneurs deal with. The balance of creating rates that deem your worth and value, but also are part of the industry standard. It’s hard to decide when the right time is to start asking for payment for the work you put out. I know it takes some encouragement and facing the fear of being rejected. The key is putting together a portfolio and providing value to your client’s when putting forward your prices with something like a media kit.

    Organize, Organize, Organize

Organization was big for me this year. I was never one to set written organized goals, but last year changed all of that and it’s definitely something I want to keep up. I chose to go with a simple planner that helped keep track of my days and also had set pages for goals. At the beginning of the month, I planned out my goals and content, so that I knew exactly what blogs were being posted each month and what goals I was trying to reach. If you have trouble keeping track of your goals, I recommend writing goals down. Whether it be in a notebook or planner, the act of writing it down seems to make the goals stick in your brain that much more.

What lessons have you taken with you into the new year? What kinds of content would you like to see from Oh So Deco in the upcoming year? I’d love to hear from you, so comment down below with any thoughts.
